[Cabs-talk] rumors and reality: cabs election?

I agree with Angela and Tina. This fighting back and forth is pointless!

Hello Angela- I agree with you. Let's stop all of the bickering and finger
pointing and do the work that I know that CABS is capable of. Also, I would
like to make a suggestion concerning the election. I think that with all of
the  issues surrounding CABS upcoming election that CABS should consider
having A nominating committee. I just don't want to see CABS go through the
same problems with the election process as NABS did at our national
convention. NABS might have been better off if they did have a nominating
committee. Just some food for thought.  Tina

Darien's right, we have made a lot of progress. We are coming off a river
rafting trip which was a smashing success. We had a couple of fund raisers
at national convention which brought some much-needed revenue into the
organization. The current leadership is doing a tremendous job mentoring and
preparing those who would potentially succeed them. CABS has come a long way
just in the few months I've been involved, and we've just begun. We've only
just scratched the surface of the things we're capable of if all the good
folks in this division combine our effort and our determination, our skills
and our talents, our drive and ambition, our ideas and our vision, all for
one purpose, bettering the lives of blind students in California! That is
what we're here for, when you get right down to it. Come on folks! Let's
stop this squabbling and get to work on the things which are really
important! I don't need to tell you what the Braille literacy rate is.
Programs effecting blind students are being drastically altered do to the
budget crisis in this state. More importantly however, there is still the
prevailing ignorance among blind and sighted people alike of our true
capabilities; that ever-pervasive prejudice which says "you can't see,
therefore you can't,"... Fill in the blank. My friends, these things must be
changed! The California Association of Blind Students has work to do! Its
time we put our internal differences aside and started getting it done!

It seems  as if we're   not all perfect, yet, but that's alright.  It
sounds as if cabs has made great progress over the past five years and
the idea, the hope is that  the division continues to do so.   in the
next few months, I hope that we all prepare for whatever changes may come
about in whatever way we have to.  It's not a bad idea to look at where we
have fallen short, butn  it sounds to me as if we have alot to look foward
to.

 I'm a little excited
