> Dear Darian,
>
> I am an attorney at Disability Rights Advocates, and I write to ask that you please distribute by email to members of the California Association of Blind Students the attached notice concerning a class-action settlement that is relevant to some blind individuals in California. The notice describes the proposed settlement inLighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired et al. v. Redbox Automated Retail, LLC et al., Case No.: C12-00195-PJH (N.D. Cal.), a class action brought to challenge the inaccessibility to blind persons of Redbox's self-service, video-rental kiosks in California. Under the proposed settlement agreement, Redbox will install nonvisual user interfaces on all of its over 4,000 kiosks in California to enable blind individuals to independently browse, pay for, and return media at the kiosks. The settlement also includes accessibility improvements to Redbox's website, enhanced customer service to facilitate access to Redbox's services while Redbox works to modify its kiosks, and a class damages fund that will provide monetary relief to eligible claimants. The Court preliminarily approved this agreement on July 31, 2014.
>
> Some members of the California Association of Blind Students may be able to obtain monetary relief from the class damages fund under the settlement. The notice provides instructions on how to submit a claim for monetary relief. Class members who are eligible for monetary relief include legally blind persons who, due to the Redbox kiosks' visual user interface, have been or are unable to access the services of a Redbox kiosk in California between January 12, 2010 and November 12, 2014. Class members are also eligible if they have been deterred or are deterred from using a Redbox kiosk on a particular occasion during this time frame. All claims for monetary relief from the class fund must be received by November 12, 2014.
>
> Disability Rights Advocates (DRA), a non-profit legal center in Berkeley, California, represents the settlement class in the case, which was brought on behalf of people who are legally blind and who would like to use Redbox kiosks located in California. Please call Stuart Seaborn or me at (510) 665-8644 if you have any questions about the settlement or the attached notice.
