Hello,

I was planning on telling more about myself after I found that my email
sent.

Again, I'm Bekah, I'm in high school, and I'm home schooled. I joined this
list hoping to get a little more involved in the NFB and CABS. I want to
participate in more activities and grasp all learning experiences I can. I'm
not completely blind, but visually impaired.

My favorite activities are mostly writing fiction and drawing the
characters I write about (along with reading to learn ways to improve my
writing--and to have fun!)

None of my novels or short stories have been published, but I do volunteer
at my church. One of the things I do is write a short story every month to
present to the kindergarten and first graders. I also work with the first
grade class every Sunday and I love it! I enjoy working with children.

Presenting my stories is a lot of fun, and it's a good first step to
becoming a professional writer. You get the experience of targeting age groups
and how to keep their attention. I also have an overall goal to glorify God
in all my writing, and writing for the children at the church gives me a
chance to experiment different ways to do that. I also like to see how the
kids react when they hear my stories. If they learn what they were supposed to
from my story, and they enjoy it, then I've done my job.

For self defense and exercise, I take karate. The place I take lessons at
has worked with blind people before (they're actually teaching a girl my age
who's blind, too). I like the way they teach, and the basics are very
helpful in dangerous situations.

I'm taking art classes every Saturday to improve my artwork. Ever since I
was little, I would write little stories and draw pictures to go with them
and staple them together to create a little book. My artwork has improved
greatly since then because I was always drawing, but you could compare a
picture from when I was a little girl to a picture I drew yesterday and notice
similarities between them.

I target people, mostly in scenes, which is one of the hardest things to
draw for some people, but for me, the easiest. I've been told I should
become an author and illustrate my own books. That's something I'd love to do!
When I get into collage, I plan on taking writing courses--especially
creative writing or something similar.

Speaking of collage, I'm looking for resources for it. I'm only going into
tenth grade, but it's good to know what I can do or get involved in. Any
suggestions?

Well, if I haven't talked your ears out, I think I'll be done now. That's
about all I can think of.

Hello, Bekah. My name is Alicia. Since I have not been keeping up with
CABS much lately, would you mind telling me a little about yourself?
Thanks.
