Hello to all CABsters,
Firstly, I would like to thank Mr. Nijat Worley for directing me to this
association and email list. Nijat and I have known each other for a long
time, and we are good friends.
My name is Nimer Jaber. Some of you will know who I am, while others do
not. I joined this list in the hopes of gaining some knowledge regarding
the operations of the Federation and the Colorado Association of Blind
Students. Due to working hard to graduate from high school, I have not
been as active on the mailing lists as I should have been, however I
would like to change that. Also, with the exception of this month, I
would like to begin attending the telephone conferences.
Introductions aside however, this email grabbed my interest as I was a
former CSDB student. I attended the school for three years, and I can
tell you that a mentor type program _really would be useful to the
students at CSDB. Sure they had mentors, but most of them were older
through career connect on AFB's website or through the role model team
which again, is comprised of primarily older individuals. I went back to
public school, and I can tell you that attending a public school with
individuals who can see and attending CSDB where you have no concept of
how basic things are accomplished are totally different. To shorten this
up, I am planning on attending the CSDB transition program next year in
order to receive financial assistance with housing while attending
college for Political Science at UCCS. I fully support a mentor type
program, and I would fully cooperate in facilitating an exchange of
ideas between students on the CSDB campus, staff/administration on the
campus and the Colorado Student division leaders/members via phone
conference or email list.
Please notify me with details of how I can be of assistance, and I will
see what I can do. I am known around the CSDB sphere, and wield quite a
bit of influence amongst both the student and administration sector.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to any replies regarding
this matter.
Sincerely,
Nimer Jaber
