Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to announce that I will be participating in a Global
Explorers Leading the Way expedition to the Grand Canyon this summer.
Global Explorers is a non-profit organization that gives youth across
the country opportunities to engage themselves in the world around
them, while instilling responsibility, community service, and the
importance of developing leadership skills. The Global Explorers
Leading the Way program was co-created with Erik Weihenmayer, the only
blind man to summit Mount Everest.

Our expedition team for the Leading the Way-Rim to River program is
composed of both blind and sighted youth, ages 14 to 21 years old. As
a participant in this life-changing expedition, I will be responsible
for participating in field research and service projects while I’m on
site at the Grand Canyon. After this trip, I will also be in charge of
managing my own service project in my community.

This program will not only give me the experience of a lifetime, but
it will help me develop critical skills I will need in the future. The
confidence and leadership skills I gain from participating will be the
foundation I need to pursue my dream of helping blind children in the
U.S., as well as India, reach their own potential and gain the
confidence they need to make their dreams a reality. Global Explorers
will help me focus on eliminating the barriers imposed on me because
of my blindness by challenging my own limits and raising my
self-awareness of what I can do when I have a goal in mind.

A donation of $50, or any amount you can give, will go toward the
program cost of $1,670. This fee covers materials (t-shirt,
curriculum, journal, student handbook), food, lodging, insurance, and
a weekend training retreat where I will get to meet Erik Weihenmayer.
