Subject: [Ohio-talk] Buckeye Update for April 11, 2012
I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend, and although it was really windy
in Chicago, I had a great time.
Upcoming Board Meeting
As you know, it is time for our Spring Board Meeting, and so I'd like to
share with you the comments from Deborah Kendrick concerning logistics for
the meeting.
"First, to remind you of the location. We will be meeting at the Cincinnati
Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 2045 Gilbert Ave.,
Cincinnati 45202. Go in the front door of the building, through the lobby
to the elevator, and get off at the fourth floor. Turn left off the
elevator, and the community room is just a tad down the hall on your right.
It's a large room filling that corner, so you could turn right and find a
door into it on your left or just keep going straight and find a door on
your right. If that is confusing, don't worry about it, because it will be
easy as pie when you see it firsthand.
John Mitchell, CABVI executive director plans to be there to let us in and,
in fact, when I asked about coffee makers last week, he insisted that he
would pick up the coffee for us. Members of our chapter (probably this very
one) will be picking up very yummilicious pastries from Cicninnati's Buskin
Bakery to go with said coffee. Lunch is going to be a real treat.
Cincinnati chapter member Marianne Denning, also a member of the committee
to host you all, absolutely insists on making her original pasta sauce and
pasta to feed us all. She says she has fed up to 50 with this recipe and
loves preparing it. There will be both meat and vegetarian versions. I
plan to add a simple salad to said pasta, and we'll have sodas and such, as
well as famous Busken cookies for dessert. The usual $5 donation per person
will be very much appreciated by the Cincinnati chapter.
It will be very helpful to us if you could let our committee president and
chapter secretary, Paul Dressell, know of your intentions to attend.
CABVI is a lovely, modern building, and I think you'll enjoy being in it.
John Mitchell will be speaking to us and joining us for lunch, but as far as
any agenda details, those will be coming from our president!
Incidentally, for those of you who want to spend a little time in Cincinnati
afterward, a five-minute car or taxi ride will put you in the heart of
downtown. If you plan to come via Greyhound, that, too, is a five-minute
(or less) taxi or car ride away."
Our Cincinnati Chapter President Sheri Albers makes the following
suggestions concerning lodging:
Hyatt Regency Cincinnati
151 West 5th Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202
513-579-1234
The Millennium Hotel Cincinnati
150 West 5th Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202
513-352-2100
Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza
35 West Fifth Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202
513-421-9100
The Westin Cincinnati
21 West 5th Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202
513-621-7700
These are the most centrally located downtown. If you need additional
information, do not hesitate to call Sheri.
Finally, our Parents Division President Carol Akers reminds me to tell you
not to forget items for the gourmet food basket fundraiser. She also wants
me to tell you to make sure you try and sell as many raffle tickets for the
event as possible, because as many of you already know, this is their most
lucrative fundraiser. If you remember from earlier correspondence, there
will be different types of baskets this year, so it should be even more
exciting.
Miscellaneous Items
Our at large chapter President, Colleen Roth, wants me to remind you not to
forget about them. Remember this is the chapter for those that do not have
chapters in their local areas and their dues are $5.00 per year.
Please pray for our affiliate family members, especially our Cleveland
Chapter President William Turner; I have not had a chance to speak with him
directly yet, but he has experienced some physical issues, which include
(but are not limited to) a significant loss in his hearing. Let's pray that
he will be able to join us for the Board Meeting, and please know that I
will keep you informed about him when I receive appropriate information.
Also, remember Becky Booth, our Ohio River Valley Chapter President, as she
is experiencing challenges in her life as well.
Isn't it good to know that we have such a loving and concerned extended
family in our affiliate?
