Minutes Capital Chapter

National Federation of the Blind of Ohio

Shelbi Hindel, president, called the meeting to order at
3:00 p.m. In attendance -

Shelbi Hindel, Angela Clark, Stephanie Claytor, Eric Duffy, MariLyn Piepho
and guest Jordy Stringer.

Jordy introduced himself to the group. He graduated high
school in 2002. Is the president of the national division of performing
arts. Has served on the board of directors in the Indiana affiliate. He is
interested in working on growing the chapter. Has applied to work with the
BELL program. Jordy is originally from Columbus and is a vendor.

Stephanie gave the treasury report. The balance for the
March meeting was $736.48. She has paid all of our obligations to the state
affiliate. The balance for April is $461.33. Dues are $10 for the year.

Eric moved that the October and November minutes be approved
as circulated by email. Angie seconded the motion and it passed.

Angie moved the March minutes be approved as sent out by email. Eric
seconded the motion. It passed.

Shelbi reported that the gift cards to be given for door
prizes at the National convention are $10 Bath and Body Works, $10 Denny's
Restaurant because there is one near the hotel, and $15 iTunes. In addition
a $15 iTunes gift card was purchased and donated to the students division
for their fundraiser on behalf of the chapter.

The dates for BELL are June 22 through July 2. It will be at
OSSB. The times are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children will be bringing their
own lunches and adults will be on their own for lunch. We will not be
getting books donated from Seedlings this year.

A sympathy card was sent on behalf of the chapter to the
family of Cynthia Johnson.

At the April meeting of the board of directors the charter
for the Ohio Parents of Blind Children was lifted. The division has been
inactive for quite some time. The division will be reorganized at a later
time. The board recognizes the importance of this division.

The Drive for 75 is winding down. On April 29 J.W. Smith
will be performing at Arnold's Bar and Grill in Cincinnati under his persona
of Dr. Feel Good. He will also do a gospel performance at the end of May in
Cincinnati.

Stephanie was supposed to do the Monitor article report but
forgot so volunteered to give the report at the May meeting.

NFB Scrip Ohio orders are due Sunday, May 3, 7:00 p.m. Our
chapter has three new folks signed up. Lets work to get two more so that
state convention registration fees will be waived for our entire chapter.

If we can grow our chapter membership we will look at other
meeting days, times, locations. We have tried multiple options and currently
the Sunday schedule works best. We have to work with people's schedules as
well as when the church is available. They do not charge us to meet in their
building. That is a significant consideration for our chapter.

Jordy did the presentation on a national division this
month. He reported on the Performing arts. This group includes a wide
variety of talents such as singing, instrument playing, public speaking,
dancing, and behind the scenes gifts like recording and sound equipment
operation. Some states do have divisions, example - California. J.W. will be
playing keyboard at the national convention opening ceremonies. He will be
joined by others but details are not yet in place. The Performing Arts
division does have a scholarship program but it is currently suspended
because of being reworked according to our national standards and should be
available for the 2016 convention. Dues are $5 per year to be a member. They
have a mentoring program. A listserv is available for those who are
interested and it can be found on the NFB.org website.

Eric reported that there is a new app for the iPhone, NFB
Connect. You can read the Monitor, Presidential Releases, press releases,
and more. He encouraged people to download it and familiarize themselves
with it. It will be improving as time goes.

We listened to the Presidential Release.

We received $6 from the sale of pony tail scrunchies that
Shelbi made. These were sold at the church's store, Donna B.'s. It was
agreed to send the money to the Drive for 75 campaign fund.

The meeting adjourned at 4:21 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Shelbi Hindel
