NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF CINCINNATI Meeting minutes for November
14th, 2015

1. The November 14th meeting of the Cincinnati Chapter of the NFB
was

called to order by President, Deborah Kendrick at 1:02 PM at Washington
Platform Restaurant. The following were present: Deborah Kendrick, Walter
Mitchell, Deanna Lewis, Lisa Hall, Emily Pennington, Lillie Pennington, Kim
McEachirn, Annie McEachirn Carson, Sheri Albers, Jessie McDaniel, Chris
Sabine, David Carr, Judy Rudig, Paul Jordan, Rachel Kuntz,Bill Innis, Karren
Innis, Elif Emir, and Joy Thomas. We had one guest, Diane Carmony (Pascal
and Mambo's grandma).

2. Introductions and the Mini-Blind. This month, we all mentioned

things that make us both happy and glad.

3. We then read the 1-minute speech in unison:

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.

4. Minutes: Emily Pennington took minutes for last month's
meeting and

emailed them to the list.

Kim McEachirn and Annie McEachirn Carson wanted the following
corrections/additions to the minutes. They wanted to see names mentioned in
the committee reports, and to reflect the work that they have done for the
Recreation committee. Annie will email additional details to the listserv.

Kim McEachirn moved that the October minutes be approved with the above
corrections/additions. Walter Mitchell seconded and the motion passed.

5. Emily Pennington read the Treasurer's Report to the group.

Deanna Lewis made a motion that the Treasurer's report be approved as read.
Lillie Pennington seconded and the motion passed.

Deborah and Emily are working on getting the proper name on the account,
because it still has Paul Dressell's name.

6. Deborah mentioned that we received two pieces of mail in our
new

P.O. Box. One of the items was a $25 check from Joy Thomas, as a donation
for the Braille-a-thon.

7. Our state NFB President, Eric Duffy, along with Barbara Pierce
and

Shelbi Hindel are currently in Pennsylvania for the 75th NFB Convention. The
NFB was formed in Pennsylvania in 1940.

8. Convention Transportation:

The Chapter has rented a 12 passenger van for Convention. On Thursday,
November 19th, the van driver, Mike Kuntz, will pick-up at two locations;
Deborah Kendrick's house and Clovernook Procter Center. On Sunday, the van
will drop-off at two locations, Deborah's house and somewhere near downtown.
Further details will be posted on the list.

We discussed the idea of giving each member who is not riding in the van a
stipend for Convention transportation. Annie McEachirn Carson moved that we
give $75 to each member not riding in the van. Kim McEachirn seconded and
the motion passed. Since Deanna Lewis is only riding in the van on the
return trip, she will be getting a $37.50 stipend.

9. Sheri Albers spoke briefly regarding the Convention
arrangements.

10. Committee Reports:

A. Fundraising:

. The Bake Sale on Halloween at Save-a-Lot, raised a total of
$186.00.

. City Access Books (renamed Discover Savings book) has a value
of

$400 in coupons. We sell the books for $20 and we make $10 for each book
sold. We currently have 38 books left, and they were distributed among the
members. The money and any unsold coupon books should be returned to the
Christmas Party on December 12th.

B. Recreation:

. Book club: Annie McEachirn Carson will coordinate, with David
Carr

and Rachel Kuntz assisting her.

. The Spring Grove tour has tentatively been rescheduled for May
7th,

pending approval from Spring Grove.

. The Coffee Brewery Tour has been scheduled for February 20th.
The

cost will be $6.00-$10.00 per member; we can also bring in food and drinks,
for a meal afterwards. The location of the brewery is not in an Access
covered area, so we will be working on transportation options.

. The Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 12th from
1:00

PM-4:00 PM at Arnold's Restaurant. Judy Rudig will be sending an email to
the list with all the details. She suggests cash only to make things easier.
Please also round your tips to the nearest half-dollar.

Please bring any gently used clothing, canned or non-perishable food items,
and toiletries to donate to a local charity.

C. Membership committee:

. The labels with the Chapter info have been printed and were
shown at

the meeting. They are peel and stick labels about the size of a business
card.

. A conference call was recently held discussing setting up and

administrating the Facebook page. Chris Sabine moved that there be two
administrators; one blind and one partially or fully sighted. The two
suggested people were, Chris Sabine and Jessie McDaniel. Deanna Lewis
seconded and the motion passed.

11. Elections: President Kendrick formed a nominating committee
this

year. The committee consisted of Rachel Kuntz (Chair), Chris Sabine, and
Lisa Hall. Also, since Paul and Bernie Dressell could not be with us at this
meeting, due to Paul's health, we discussed the idea of them voting. Rachel
Kuntz moved that Paul and Bernie be allowed to vote via telephone, David
Carr seconded and the motion passed.

Voting was done via private ballot, as each member was given two pieces of
paper; one blank, and the other with a raised dot. The blank paper would
represent one candidate and the raised dot paper would represent the other
candidate. Votes were folded and passed in to be counted.

Elections took place with the following results:

President - Deborah Kendrick

Vice President - Lisa Hall

Secretary - Chris Sabine

Treasurer - Emily Pennington

Board Members - Kim McEachirn, Paul Jordan, and David Perry

12. The meeting was adjourned at 3:03 PM with the next meeting

scheduled on January 23rd, 2016. Happy Holidays!

Respectfully submitted,

Deanna Lewis, Secretary
