Hello Cincinnati Chapter Members,
I was talking to Deborah on Saturday, and she asked me to email some information to our members regarding the upcoming election.  Ohio has a "closed election" which means that you can only vote for candidates from the party in which you are registered.  However, it is easier to change parties at the primary election than you may think.  If you are a registered Democrat but you want to vote for a Republican candidate, you can simply ask for a Republican ballot and your registration will be changed.  The same goes if you are registered as a Republican and you want to vote for a Democratic candidate.  You would simply ask for a Democrat ballot and your registration will be changed.  If you are registered as an Independent but you want to vote for either Republican or Democrat candidates, you simply ask for a ballot of the party in which the candidate you prefer is running, and your registration will be changed form Independent to either Republican or Democrat.
If you would like to confirm this you can call the Hamilton County Board of Elections at 513-632-7000 and go to the Registration Department.  You can also get information on how to change your registration back to the party you belonged to before the primary election if you want to switch back.
