RTD names 3 finalists for CEO
Dec 8, 2015, 5:28pm MST
Golden, W Line
KATHLEEN LAVINE | DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL

The RTD W line travels over the 6th Avenue bridge on its way to the
Jefferson County Government Center/Golden station.

Three finalists were named late Tuesday for the top job at Denver's
Regional Transportation District — including the agency's current
interim chief.

The finalists — announced by the RTD board — are
Stephanie Dawson,
Dave Genova
 and
Richard Leary.

The transit agency's next general manager and CEO will succeed
Phil Washington,
who guided Denver’s mass transit agency since 2009 and shepherded its
sprawling FasTracks rail project. Washington left in April to head the
Los Angeles
County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, known as Metro.

“This is a critical time in the history of RTD, so we are pleased to
have such strong finalists,” said RTD Board Chairman
Charles Sisk.
"We have searched across the world to find the most qualified
candidates to ensure RTD continues to be the best transit agency in
the nation.”

A look at the finalists:

list of 3 items
Dawson is acting chief operating officer at the Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey, which she joined in 1995. Her current
responsibilities include
overseeing aviation, tunnels, bridges, terminals, port commerce, PATH
Rail, operations services and the newly created office of storm
mitigation and resilience.
Genova has been interim general manager and CEO for RTD since April.
Genova has been with RTD for more than 21 years, serving as assistant
general manager
of safety, security and facilities for the previous eight years,
overseeing safety certification for rail line openings and the
renovated Denver Union
Station.
Leary is chief service officer for the Toronto Transit Commission, the
third largest urban mass transit system in North America. Leary’s
responsibilities
day-to-day revenue operations, customer services and safety at the
Toronto agency. Leary retired in 2009 as chief operating officer for
the Massachusetts
Bay Transportation Authority, which operates most of the bus, subway,
commuter rail and ferry routes in the greater Boston area.

The public can meet and hear from RTD’s finalists at a
public open forum
with the finalists from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Embassy
Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center, 1420 Stout Street.

Attendees will be asked to provide feedback in writing on each
finalist following the forum. Comments also may be submitted online at
www.rtd-denver.com/gminput.

The RTD board will interview the finalists on Friday and is expected
to announce the candidate it wants to enter into contract negotiations
with that day.
RTD expects to appoint a full-time general manager by the end of year.
