Construction starts Friday at CO 52 and Weld County Road 19 to extend a culvert and improve safety

WELD COUNTY –The Colorado Department of Transportation and Mountain Constructors will construct culvert improvements at the intersection of Colorado Highway 52 and Weld County Road 19 (Mile Point 16.4) starting Nov. 18.

Due to limited space within the work zone, right turns will be temporarily prohibited at the intersection for trucks northbound on CR 19 and westbound on CO 52.

This project extends the ends of a concrete box culvert to improve road safety. Work includes replacing a 36-inch drainage culvert and widening the east side of the intersection to better accommodate truck turn movements. Temporary barrier walls will be used to separate the work area from the travel lanes.

The intersection will remain open during construction. However, right turns will be temporarily prohibited for trucks traveling northbound on CR 19 at CO 52. Truck right turns will also be prohibited from westbound CO 52 to northbound CR 19. Signs will indicate when the restrictions are in place. Drivers should expect construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone and an oversize vehicle width restriction.

qMountain Constructors was awarded a $705,000 contract to build the project. Project completion is anticipated in early summer 2023 after a winter shutdown.

General work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with occasional extended hours and weekend work. Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Weekly updates are available on the project web page.
