[Colorado-Talk] Fwd: Colorado Highway 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Research Parkway new Diverging Diamond Interchange opening to traffic this week

I discussed this project with President Fortin of the Colorado Springs Chapter a few months ago.  Diverging Diamond Interchanges (DDI) are rather functional and make traffic easier to flow.  There is one in Cheyenne, Wyoming going over I-25 at College Drive near the Flying J.  DDI makes exiting and entering I-25 more effective especially with the heavy truck traffic going to the truck stops along that area from I-25 and I-80.  I am sure the DDI will aid in traffic flow in that area.  I have no experience with DDIs from a pedestrian point of view.  I comprehend there is one on McCaslin and US-36.  We need to keep an eye out for DDIs as I am sure CDOT will keep wanting to build more.

Colorado Highway 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Research Parkway new Diverging Diamond Interchange opening to traffic this week

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner Kraemer North America have reached major project milestone and will open the new interchange Wednesday morning. Crews will reinstate through access on Research Parkway under the new Colorado Highway 21 bridge and remove the current hook ramps north and south of the interchange. The new interchange at CO 21 and Research Parkway replaces the at-grade intersection with a new, innovative Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) and an overpass for CO 21 traffic to move continuously through the intersection over Research Parkway.

The DDI increases the flow of traffic by allowing free-flowing turns when entering and exiting CO 21 from Research Parkway by eliminating left turns against oncoming traffic and reducing the number of traffic signals.
