Hello Tim:

I tried that yesterday. It did not work on the current RTD MyRide app. Frustrating.

Hi, Elizabeth,

Have you tried using Voiceover screen recognition in that app? If you’ve never used it, while the app is open, rotate through the rotor until you hear Screen Recognition, and swipe down to turn it on.

When I noticed the inaccessibility of the Bustang apps, that was at least able to read me the buttons.

This might help you while they actually fix the problem.

Hi, so the only way I was actually able to buy the tickets through the RTD MyRide app it was by using Aira and sharing my screen with them, and then they would tell me which button to press, and sometimes I’d have to go back a couple of buttons to get to the right button. But it was successful. I hope this isn’t something we have to fully rely on for a long time.

Thanks

Elizabeth

Indeed. Let’s hope. Why should we be the beta testers<frowning face>?

Hi Curtis,

I noticed a couple weeks ago that the Ride Bustang and Bustang Outrider and Tix apps had the same accessibility problems Elizabeth described with the RTD My Ride app.

However, when I checked yesterday, those problems had been fixed.

Let’s hope the My Ride app undergoes a similar metamorphosis.

Greetings:

Here is an update regarding the unlabeled buttons problem with the RTD MyRide app. Apparently, the RTD MyRide was updated about four to six weeks ago to version 7.8.16. The fact that most of us haven’t heard about this problem until yesterday indicates how little the app is used within the blind community.

The software vendor for this app is headquartered in Europe. This company has historically generated all of the apps that we have used, successfully, from RTD. The fact that this problem surfaced at all is an embarrassing testament to how well (or not well) the company is doing at testing what it develops and modifies before final release. I would hazard a guess that there are no screen reader users involved with testing who work for the company. Perhaps RTD might amend its contract to make this a requirement in the future? I intend to see about making this happen.

Kind regards,

Curtis Chong
