Subject: Immediate Release - Exciting Goalball game against CSPD today

Hello,

The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) will host a friendly goalball match against the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) today (April 28). As part of CSPD's community relations initiative, CSDB blind student-athletes will challenge police officers, who will compete blindfolded to level the playing field.

Goalball is a sport designed specifically for athletes who are Blind or visually impaired. Players wear blindfolds and track a soccer-sized ball embedded with bells by sound, aiming to throw it into opposing goal. CSPD officers will participate in full uniform, including bulletproof vests and weapons belts, to add challenge and authenticity, relying solely on sounds and touch.

The annual match creates learning opportunities and positive interactions between Blind students and the police officers. "Our students and the police officers just want to have fun and play in a friendly game," said Amanda Padilla, CSDB's goalball coach. "They become comfortable with the officers and joke around with them every time they come to our campus."

The match begins at 4:30 p.m. today in the Bulldog Gym on CSDB's historic campus at Pikes Peak Avenue and North Hancock Avenue, and will run for approximately one hour. Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade and CSPD Chief of Police Adrian Vasquez are scheduled to attend. Media are invited to take photos and videos, and interview students and coaches.
