Hello everyone in The RTD Area, and everyone else who opened this message. 😊
I finally had some time to go back through the video from the May 14 Committee meeting, only to find out that they never got to the Access on Demand discussion. This is unfortunate, because it would have given us an idea of what the Board is thinking prior to the discussion with the full Board coming up next Wednesday.
One thing Deborah Johnson did say, though, is that their contracts with the various taxi and rideshare companies expire at the end of the year, and they need some clarity in order to put out their proposal to these companies, even if they just want to renew the current contracts.
This tells me that the Board is going to be compelled to make a decision on this on Wednesday night.
So, I thought we might want to have a Zoom meeting to figure out where we stand on this and coordinate our public comment for next Wednesday’s meeting. We obviously don’t have a ton of time with the long weekend coming up, so whatever we do, we probably want to do it soon, as in, maybe tomorrow night.
What do y’all think?
Cheers,
Tim
P.S. Here are the current recommendations as stated a couple weeks ago by Nate Trela:
Both plans:
- Cut subsidy from $25 to $20 on each ride
- Cut service area and hours to match the core Access a Ride program
They are going to ask the board to endorse one of two options for fares and ride limits.
Option 1: 50 trips a month with a $6.50 fare ($3.25 if you qualify for lower fares)
Option 2: 60 rides with fares in tiers. First 30 rides at $4.50, rides 31-50 at $5.50 and rides 51 to 60 at $6.50 (all with half-price fares for those who qualify). This will not save as much money in part because they say they'll need to spend $450,000 a year on new staff to manage it.
