[Colorado-Talk] SSI overpayment recovery

Good morning, Keisha, and all others who have had issues with SSI, saying that they have overpaid us. Most of the time in my life, this has occurred when I have worked seasonal jobs, because Social Security takes three months to suspend the services, and then three months to restart the services. I would suggest going ahead to the meeting on Tuesday, and signing the waiver. In most cases, Social Security will make it so that you only have to pay $10 back. There is an appeals process, and yes, Social Security has been sued in the past or more than one occasion for saying that SSI has been overpaid to recipient and accusing the recipient of doing the wrong things. I hope you have success. It is very stressful and it can take up a great deal of your emotional time. Please keep us posted on how things turn out. The only reason I’m suggesting that you go to the meeting on Tuesday, if you do not want one more month to pass in which case they’re still saying that you are being overpaid, because it’ll make it more difficult to appeal the decision.

Can someone please help me because I have a meeting with them on Tuesday to file a request for a waiver but should I go to this meeting or should I postpone it and wait until I have someone with me who is able to look at the paperwork and documentation that I would have to provide as proof that the overpayment was not my fault? Is there someone in particular I can speak with or be referred to on this matter? I think I remember that Social Security was sued by the NFB not long ago because of demanding overpayments. Is there a law in place now that they would follow? Thank you.
