[Community-service] Some food for thought...

Well, that's food for thought all right. Let me introduce myself. I'm
Denise Shaible and I live in California with my husband Adam who works as a
Mobility Instructor at the Society for the Blind in Sacramento. We're both
active in our church although we just started attending it. I love working
with homeless persons and it gives me a great feeling to feed them and to be
fed by them. I've made friends with a woman who was homeless for a number
of years and we're learning from each other. I think that's what comes from
serving. I'm not sure what I expect from this group except that I think it
could be a group which encourages its members to serve others. I agree that
we need to show that we don't always expect to be served. I'm excited about
this group and this list. I expect to give and receive food for thought and
ideas on how I as a blind person can serve my fellow blind persons and my
community. I would like to help in creating a Division because I believe it
goes along with the NFB philosophy and shows that we won't always sit on the
sidelines waiting for someone else to help us.
Regards,
Denise Shaible

Hello all,
Kaiti, this is a great quote!
To me, this means that we as human beings need to have the mindset that
service has to be a part of living. We can't go about life expecting to
only receive. Indeed we are best served to serve, as we all have
something to give and should find a way to share our talents with the world
in which we live.
just my thoughts.
Again, thank you, Kaiti.
best,
Darian
