> Dear Colleagues and Communicators,
> Remember two weeks ago? President Obama announced a task force to explore public and private partnerships with CNCS that would expand national service opportunities for Americans everywhere. CEO Wendy Spencer today posted a follow-up column on the Huffington Post. Take a minute to read it, and then check out the latest examples of how our programs are getting things done for America:
> Last week, more than 40,000 volunteers traveled to West Virginia to perform 350 service projects across nine counties. Senior Corps volunteers, 14 AmeriCorps NCCC teams, and AmeriCorps VISTA members joined Volunteer West Virginia and the Citizens Conservation Corps of West Virginia to coordinate the project, lead service, and manage volunteers. By the time all was said and done, volunteers performed more than 300,000 hours of service during a five-day period.
> AmeriCorps members with the Montana State Parks AmeriCorps Program are supporting disaster recovery in one of the state's historic ghost towns, which took some serious damage after a flash flood last week. In addition to assessing damage, AmeriCorps members are recovering and documenting artifacts in Bannack State Park, a National Historic Landmark and the site of Montana’s first territorial capital.

The Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative identified local needs and developed projects for 40,000 volunteers throughout the state.
