[Community-service] Seeking ideas for thecommunityservicegroupseminar at national convention

Oh! forgot this. Most large cities have advisory boards, try to get on
one. Identify your passion and research it. If a advisory board exists
find out if blind people are represented, if not introduce yourself to
the chairperson, explain why you should be appointed and introduce the
nfb philosophy to them. If they won't allow you on, attend the public
meetings and be vocal on issues surrounding blindness. We have a
citezens council with Regional Transit authority in Cleveland, they
won't let us on the council because they feel like the 1 person in a
wheel chair can speak for all of us. So, we plan to work on this this
year, we will be heard even if we are not added to the group. smiles
