Hi all,

I came across the following article the other day about a group of high school students who are spending their spring break helping with tornado relief in Illinois. A group of college students, also participating in an alternative spring break, spent a few days at the Colorado Center for the Blind a couple of weeks ago helping out with some projects. Both of these things got me thinking about the concept of an alternative spring break, which was something I had never heard of until a year or so ago. I think it’s an awesome idea, and it’s so cool to see young people so interested in service and willing to give up their spring break to help others.

Have any of you participated in an alternative spring break, either in high school or college? If so, what did you do? How was the experience? What did you learn? If you haven’t, what do you think about the concept?

The article that got me thinking about this is: http://www.ksdk.com/story/news/2014/03/16/marquette-high-school-rockwood-washington-illinois-tornadoes/6501405/.
