[Community-service] What's your favorite service project?

I had scheduled the chapter to help with a garden project in the fall, but I didn’t get many takers and I sort of backed away because I wasn’t sure but what we might need more help than we would have. We have a master gardener in our chapter, but he couldn’t be there. I wish I had not done this now, and the post on the blog about that was rather inspiring.

Hi all,

in general I like projects that allow me to do stuff I don’t get to do everyday.

The stuff that get’s my hands dirty and get’s me directly involved with the issue makes me feel like I’ve actually done something to improve my community.

I I can be painting or moving plants or building something and all of these things make me feel just as good.

Hi all,

I just saw on Twitter that for National Volunteer Week, HandsOn Network is hosting the Service Project Playoffs, where people can vote for their favorite one-day service project. I’ve included the link below if anyone is interested in voting.

Also feel free to reply to this message and share your favorite types of service projects and why their your favorite. The HandsOn Network poll provides a good list for reference, but also feel free to include something they didn’t mention. I’d have to say that my favorite type of service project would either be volunteering at an animal shelter or gardening. I love working with animals, and I also really enjoy being outside and doing the hands-on work involved in gardening.

Here’s the link to the HandsOn Network poll: http://www.handsonnetwork.org/serviceplayoffs
