[Ct-nfb] this list's creation

Hi Lucia,
I do understand your point of view concerning consolidation of communication between groups and individuals, but I think it would have been courteous if "The Office" had sent an email to everyone asking their permission first to include them on this listserve before they took it upon themselves to decide to published every ones private email addresses publicly to everyone else on this list. Your notification gave no indication of a way to reject your inclusion in this decision, just a statement that it was already
decided and accomplished. Did anyone stop to think there might be some privacy issues here?  I don't think this is a matter of being patient at all - it's a matter of making public an individual private email address. I have no idea who this Justin Salisbury is, located in some students educational group, and am really upset that my email address is now floating publicly around some type of youth organization. This is really extremely gutsy and unnerving. Please make sure you remove my email address from every place you deemed to have sent it.
   Unbelievable,
   Audrey J. Wellner
PS  Somebody better hope that I don't receive any more junk from this new list or the student youth group because I'll certainly know where it's being generated from.

Hi all,

There seems to be a lot of questions about who created this list and why. Also, why our members' email addresses were included. On Monday, I sent out a general email to everyone stating that the office had decided to create this list serve as a way to keep us all connected (I have pasted a copy of it below this email).  I would use this list to disseminate emails that would usually come from the office...such as "The Federationist", legislative alerts, messages from our National Office, etc. By implementing this list, we have also given chapters an opportunity to keep people in the affiliate informed as to their activities. And, individuals now have a forum to network with other members about issues concerning blindness and their daily lives.

Over the years, I have accumulated a list of members and interested people who have indicated that they would like to receive emails from our office. Any of these emails were included in Monday's email from my office email, and they were also included in our list serve. While I understand the initial frustration with all the activity this list has generated over the past couple of days, I'd urge you all to be patient and remain on the list. If you remove yourself, you will not be receiving emails from us at all. I will no longer be sending general emails to all of you from the office email address, and each chapter contact person will no longer be forwarding emails either. We will work to remove emails of those who requested it as soon as possible.

If you have further questions, please consider asking our moderator Justin Salisbury at salisburyj08 at students.ecu.edu or myself at llee at nfbct.org rather than addressing the whole list. Please remember that when you hit 'reply' to any emails that you receive from our list, you are responding to the whole list, not just one person.

Thanks,
Lucia Lee

Dear all,

The National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut is developing an listserv to provide better communication between our members and friends, and our chapters and divisions. This list will be used to provide information about issues of importance to the blind, news from our Affiliate and the National Office, job openings in the State of Connecticut, as well as announcements of the activities of our chapters, the affiliate and the NFB. Our moderator will be Justin Salisbury; he can be reached at salisburyj08 at students.ecu.edu. You have, in the past, received forwarded electronic information from our office email addresses or a chapter contact email address. Such information will now be coming from ct-nfb at nfbnet.org

Thanks,
Lucia Lee
