Hello to everyone out there in NFB cyber space. My name is Michael
McDermott, I am kind of a newby to Ct. since I moved here 2.5 years
ago with my wife from Boston. I am not new to the Federation though
as I have been blind since age 8 and I am 39 years old and I have been
apart of NFB for most of that time, so glad the national organization
exist and so glad to be able to attend my local chapter. It is nice
to know that there are others of us out there who had to confront
similar issues and overcome them. Through this organization and
through the new mailing list perhaps we can build on all of our
strengths and experiences to help each other. As I said before I am a
transport from Boston, consequently I have had culture shock and still
am having it periodically with my transition to CT. Perhaps my fellow
brothers and sisters can help me with that. Getting back to why I
moved here, it's because I don't have any living family or relatives
in Cambridge MA. where I grew up, also I married my wife in Bristol 10
years ago on May 26, so I wanted to move her back to her home town so
as to be closer to my new family. I think I underestimated the
difficulties living in subberbia has for a blind person though as well
as the various transportation issues. Hope to meet most of you folks
and I am sure I will adjust after all you folks did! Please excuse any
negative vibes about CT., it has some positive elements and I do like
living in Suberbia as aposed to the big city, but am just having some
issues regarding the loss of independence and the difficulty of the
terrain.
