[Ct-nfb] Device Helps Blind See with Tongue

I and many fellow blind people have no desire to have vision in our eyes.
While it can be a very sad shock to lose one's vision, so many of us have
lived many uniquely enjoyable years as blind people. Blindness, and how you
learn to deal with it in a positive manor becomes an asset in your life.
That's the best I can offer to this conversation at the moment as I am being
blocked from viewing the page where I am; though I have heard of this kind
of thing, and I'll surely investigate further.

Oh come on you guys, At least they are trying to some how recover our sight.
But I digress. I've read about this kind of thing before. It aint perfect
though. If I recall, you only see the outlines of stuff. I'll read the thing
later, but I've heard about this kind of thing. I don't know though. Like I
said, I'll read the thing later, but the last I've heard of it, which I
think was in 2009, it wasn't perfect. But seriously thouth, come on guys?
Wouldn't you want to see? I would. Theere maybe some sighted people that
doubt the abilities of blind people, but, well they say anyways, it's
because they haven't seen many blind people. Are there really that few blind
people? But I digress yet again. I don't know. I'll read the article, and
listen to the video later, but I think I'll weight for something a little
better.

Philosophy Discussion Time

I just caught this story on a Boston news station, and I want to hear
people's opinions of it. There are many different versions of this news
story, but here's a link to a page with a video and text article:

Feel free to find other versions of this story using a simple search engine.

When I heard that Mark couldn't wait for the day that he could navigate his
own home independently with a device, I thought to myself "hey, I already
have one of those devices. It's called a cane!"

In my reading on the story, I get the impression that researchers think that
this device is important because we blind people are oblivious to our
surroundings and need some way to get information about them. I think this
is cool research for the sake of research, but I see absolutely no practical
need for the device. With the proper skills and training, we can
independently navigate our own surroundings. I further wonder if maybe
these uneducated or incorrectly educated researchers simply don't know about
the techniques we blind people can use to independently navigate our
surroundings or if they view them as inferior and think we should be trying
to operate as closely to sighted people as we can.

What does everyone on the list think?
