Hi, legislative alert… Bill 6654, I am not sure where it will show up next. I thought this went out this morning from the office, I’m noticing it did not. . Very important. Apparently, our politicians are sneaking this through other formats and, unfortunately, nfb thought this was all taken care of, but it’s a problem again in our legislature. but it was supposed to come out first thing this morning that we have another call into our representatives, to express our outrage that our vendor’s jobs are still at risk. So, please call your representatives, first thing Friday morning, I know it’s a holiday and that’s what they may be counting on. So, please federationists, call your rep.thank you so much Beth Rival

Good information from your legislator. Craig Minor has added 2 uncalled amendments onto HB6305 which is on the House's Go List. This means that HB6305 can be voted on at any time and when (and if) it is, each amendment will be voted on individually. Craig Minor also has the option of adding an amendment to any other bill that he sees fit to add it to. It could crop up on any bill that it could possibly be related to. This is why Andrew Norton's email didn't have specific bill information in it. At any rate, Andrew was right in his email to ask people to call or write their State Representative again to talk about this issue. I can write up another legislative alert to send to the list serv if you want.

Beth--

You are correct-- two amendments to House Bill 6305 have been filed regarding BESB and the operation of concessions in State parks. They are LCO 7021 and LCO 7022. Thanks for making me aware of this-- I am confident that leadership is aware of it too, but I will make sure to re-iterate your (and MY) opposition.

    Take care. --Mike Demicco

Subject: new threat to blind concessionaires in state parks

Hello:

I wanted to let you know that we may still face a threat against the right of blind clients to operate concessions at state parks. I reported to you that on May 1st the legislature’s Finance Committee removed part of a bill that would undo the law giving blind business people first right to operate a concession at a state park facility. However, the proposal has since been filed as an amendment to other bills still working their way through the process. This is possible under legislative rules. We cannot know ahead of time exactly when such an amendment will come up. People with blindness and their advocates who oppose this idea may still want to call your State Representative and State Senator to ask them to oppose the idea also. Many of you have already alerted your legislator to this issue with your previous calls and e-mails. However, because of these efforts to revive the proposal, you may want to call or write again.

Below my signature, I have included telephone numbers that can be used to call your legislator at their Capitol office. Below these general phone numbers, you will see a link to the website of the legislature where you can find the e-mail address of every member.

As always, please feel free to call or write me with any questions.
