The First Lion’s World Song Festival for the Blind will be held Nov. 18-21
in Krakow, Poland. Gigi Yanez-Hamberger will be representing the U.S.A.

The aim of the World Song Festival is to promote awareness of the needs of
those with their sight impaired and hope the festival will promote talented
blind amateur artists, and enable them to begin professional vocal career on
the international stage. The vocalists attending this Festival competed in
their own countries and will now compete against each other.

The venue for the festival will be Kraków, a city credited by the European
Commission in ‘Access City Award 2011’ competition in recognition of its
initiatives aimed at making life easier for handicapped individuals. The
venue is the Juliusz Slowacki Theater. The vocalists will perform their
original songs live in front of a wide festival audience. A professional,
international jury will pick the winners and people from the audience will
pick their favorites, who will receive the audience award. Their website for

Gigi learned about this opportunity because she is an active member of the
Southern Ct. chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. Her chapter
meets the second Saturday of each month in Milford, CT.

influential nationwide membership organization of blind people in the United
States, with over 50,000 active members. Founded in 1940, the NFB advocates

innovative education, technology, and training programs to provide the blind
and those who are losing vision with the tools they need to become
independent and successful. Membership is open to all, both blind and
sighted. The NFB has affiliates in all fifty states plus Washington, DC and
Puerto Rico, and over seven hundred local chapters. Their website is
