I know I said this weekend, but it's going to have to be Monday. I'm really sorry about that, everyone. I'm trying to make it easy for everyone so that once you get what I give you it won't take very long to do something with it. Have a good night!

Hi Deb,

One of the great things about working on this legislation is that it’s really the same idea as it was last year. We need people to write letters, send emails, and make phone calls to get our legislators to take guide dogs out of Raised Bill 35.

We can all contact the members of the insurance committee, the committee in which this bill originates, and our personal legislators. We each have one State Senator and one State Representative for our hometown or section of our hometown.

Right now, I am on my email just to take a break from writing a bunch of documents to help us in this endeavor. I am preparing an article for our newsletter, The Federationist in Connecticut, an FAQ sheet, and some sample letters to legislators. One of the members of the legislative committee has stepped up to compile for us a list of all members of the insurance committee in our state legislature, with their party, contact info, and towns represented.

We will be sending out a bunch of things before the weekend is out.

Thanks so much for rallying the Central Connecticut Chapter!

Justin

My brothers and sisters:

This evening, our state legislature just scheduled a public hearing on Raised Bill 35 for Thursday, February 18. They are really seriously trying to slam this thing through. I got the update right after sending out the last message. After consulting with our President, Edward Shaham, I am going to host two conference calls: one the night before the hearing to help us prepare for it and one the night after the hearing so that we can review what happened at it and strategize in order to move forward.

The two calls will be:
Wednesday, February 17, at 8:30 pm ET
Thursday, February 18, at 8:30 pm ET

To attend, dial 641-715-3294 and enter the access code 433706.

It’s such a wonderful thing that the National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut is strong enough to take this on. It’s going to take some work from each of us, but I’m really proud that we have such a strong organization fueled by a love that can move mountains and mount movements.

Yours,
