[Ct-nfb] You're Not Going to Believe This!

Fellow Federationists:

You’re not going to believe this, but our government is not moving as quickly as we thought they might. This means that, if you did not act last week, you can still reach out to them this week. It’s hard to get them during the recess, but you could try then, too, if, for some reason, you cannot make a phone call during the rest of this week.

We need to follow up on the work we began on March 9 about Space Available and the Marrakesh Treaty. Over the next two weeks, the Senate will be in recess, and members will be in their home districts; we have a prime opportunity to make more progress on our legislative priorities. Our legislative committee is working to schedule meetings with our senators to encourage them to cosponsor S. 2596 (the Senate companion bill to HR 2264), and call for its language to be included in the base National Defense Authorization Act. We still need people to make more phone calls and send emails!

We also need to encourage our senators to support the swift ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty by agreeing to provide their consent as quickly as possible.

We understand that not all affiliate members will be able to attend the in-person meetings, so let’s all be sure to call their Senators’ offices to make their voices heard. The Capitol Switchboard phone number is (202) 224-3121.

Here are the names of the specific staff members who handle the NDAA and Space Available:

For Senator Blumenthal's office: Katherine Bradbury

For Senator Murphy's office: David Seyferth

We need everyone’s engagement to get these two things done during the second session of the 114th Congress.

Thank you for your efforts to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind.

Yours,

Justin M. Salisbury, MA, NOMC, NCUEB
