Yes, you catch more fly’s with honey. We are educating the public and they don’t always understand so patience and kindness are always appropriate. Beth

Well said! In full agreement, I double your two cents!

Hi, All!

I've had similar experiences with the choice of using an escalator rather than the elevator. When I was in the Toastmasters, which is a public-speaking organization ,we met at our local library here in Waterbury. I always used the steps, and one time, someone asked: "Shouldn't you use the elevator?" to which I replied that I was just fine. I wasn't mean about it either because sighted people, who mean well, don't know how each one of us can navigate. There's an expression which says, "You can catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar! No matter how old or young we are, we are always educating the public on how competent we are. I have a friend who lives out of state who is so nasty to people who try to help her, and I always tell her that people can't read minds and they are only trying to help because they don't know how competent we are.

Well, everyone, that's my two-cents' worth! ☺️

Jim,

I completely agree with you. I have encountered similar situations.

This is a very good article.
When I went to vote last week, I walked to the polling place, where I walked up a flight of steps to enter the building. When I left, a gentleman seemed confused that I chose the steps rather than the ramp. The steps took me directly to the sidewalk, and the ramp lead to a parking lot beside the building, which would have messed up my orientation. Sometimes we just have to be polite, but firm.
