The expression "Home for the Holidays" has never meant more than it does
right now. In the current pandemic, "home" represents safety and a better
chance to socially distance in the community. Even more it represents an
opportunity for our disabled family and friends to escape the dangers of
living in a congregate setting. Since the beginning of this pandemic, the
Center for Disability Rights has continued to make the opportunity to be
"Home for the Holidays" a reality for those who want to be in their own
home.

Since March we have transitioned more than 110 people from institutions back
into the community. In addition, our Olmstead Housing Program accounted for
50% of the Olmstead Housing placements statewide. As successful as we have
been, however, there is much more to do and many people still living in
congregate settings who wish for the opportunity to live in their own homes.
An example is Leora Brown who had been in a skilled nursing facility for
four long months where she contracted COVID-19. Center for Disability Rights
worked hard to help her to return home last Tuesday. We can assist more
people like Leora Brown with your help.

Center for Disability Rights is not only helping individuals like Leora, we
also work actively to create systemic policy change for people with
disabilities. On a national level, we continue to lead the push to pass the
Disability Integration Act. This would be the first legislation that would
guarantee the right of all disabled people to live in the community with
services and supports.
