Subject: Call to Action

Dear Federation Family,

I have spoken with President Riccobono this morning. He feels that legal
action at this time is just to expensive, even with a generous donation from
our affiliate. His suggestion for our best course of action is to have a
coordinated effort of daily phone calls to the Governors office. You should
ask the governor's representative to have Governor Lamont direct the
Secretary of state to make absentee ballot voting accessible to blind and
print disabled voters . Please tell whoever you get on the phone that we are
looking for any kind of ballot system that makes it possible for us to vote
on our own, from home, with no assistance from a sighted individual. You can
also mention the availability of an electronic voting system that allows us
to vote, print out a paper ballot and mail it in just like everybody else.
Feel free to say as much or as little as you are comfortable with but please
call! The more people that call the greater chance of success we have. This
issue effects all of us and other print disabled individuals so let's go
fight for our right to vote independently!! The Governor's phone number is
860-566-4840. You will get a recording saying the office is closed but wait
until the end and at that point you can press # and then 5 and you will
eventually get a live person to talk with. Please be patient and wait to
speak, we all know how important this issue is to all blind people not just
us in the NFB.

Best Regards,

Maryanne Melley

President

National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut
