[CT-NFB] Uber and Lyft

Hi Deb and all,

Throughout my personal experiences using both Uber and Lyft platforms, most of the drivers I’ve encountered have called out my name when picking me up. I usually have someone sighted with me while I’m waiting. But if I’m not with a sighted person, I’ll wait until I hear my name called by the driver.

For anybody who has Aira or Be My Eyes, you can call them for assistance while you're waiting for your ride as well. Once you receive the information within the app with the driver’s name, license plate number, and the type of car they’re driving, you can tell the Aira agent or the Be My Eyes volunteer all that and they’ll look out for you. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Bri

Subject: [CT-NFB] Uber and Lyft

Fellow Nfb members,
I have never used either of the above services but I understand from other members that The drivers do not call your name when they stop the car. It seems as though that would be much safer than sending a description and license plate of the car since most of us would not be able to see that. How would someone know that it was actually an Uber or a Lyft driver or just someone posing as one. Does anyone know if this issue has been addressed with these companies?
