Deb,

Thank you so much for sharing this! It’d be awesome to have this volunteer who himself is blind come to the state convention. If at all possible, let’s give him a place on our agenda. We talk so much about museum accessibility; this museum right here in Connecticut is doing it and valuing the contributions of a blind person. Even let him know about the vendor fair on Friday night; maybe the museum would like a table to present a traveling display for our members and other attendees…

Nathanael

Hello everyone,
This museum is coming up on 25 years anniversary this year. It is a beautiful space and a recent visit there with our 10 year old twin granddaughters was enjoyable. It was accessible for me as the remote comes with two types of audio description And one is for the visually impaired giving you more than just what’s happening during each scene in the village by also what a sighted person is seeing. In the other areas of the museum that do not have this audio description there are a couple of mini theaters you can go into and sit down and listen to a video on a particular aspect of Their culture. Currently, the only tactile items are pelts from the different animals that were hunted. The newly installed surface on the outside terrace on the upper floor is very cane friendly and there are new grooves to get stuck in. We met a Native American young man who was born blind and volunteers twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays. His name is Mike DAGGETT. He is going to try to attend our state convention in New London.
