Team Achilles officially kicked off our busy month at our Greater Hartford workout and at the Garavel SoNo Half Marathon & 5K the first weekend of October.  This past Sunday, while many tapered for Hartford and the NYC Marathon at our Greater New Haven workout, we sent a virtual "Go Achilles!" to our volunteers who ran in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon!  Congratulations to Nicole Schreier (Charity Runner for Achilles CT), Dana Martin (co-guide to Achilles Boston athlete Justin O’Connell), Sammi Bray, Tammy McKay, and Emma Spoldi. The Chapter Events Team of Nina, Michelle, Beth, and Grit have been working hard with Erin since April to plan our largest race (and fundraiser) at the Eversource Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K… it’s hard to believe race week is here!

We are also grateful for our Charity Runners who are part of Team Achilles on race day and have been helping us hit our fundraising goal!  Thank you to The Rigby Family-Ashley, Jeff, Julien and Colette (5K), Janet Wang (half marathon), Marissa Chappell (half marathon), Jill Wagner (half), Lufeng Zou (pacing the half marathon), Patrick Turek (marathon), Alex Soter (pacing the marathon), and the Newington High School Field Hockey Team (with Coach Veronica Grubin, and Achilles/Newington friends Tricia DeLorso and Genna Griffith)!

The phrase “it takes a village” also applies to our dedicated Race Day Volunteers.  We recruited 39 “give back” volunteers to HMF as part of our Official Charity Partnership…many of them will be course monitors in East Hartford and Downtown Hartford so listen for "Go Achilles!" as you pass by!  Helping Erin, Grit and Beth in Bushnell Park and the Wheelchair Athlete Zone are another 12 volunteers;  they will greet you in the early morning hours and be under the arch as you cross the finish line!  “All in” this year we are set to welcome 120 to our team tent this year…we can't wait to celebrate with you as we #runHartford!

*	As an 11-year Official Charity of the Eversource Hartford Marathon, Achilles Connecticut has a critical goal to raise $30,000 this year.  We earmark a portion of the funds we raise in this event for the Vinnie Liguori Memorial Fund, which provides support to our athletes with disabilities so that cost is not a barrier to for them to get active and participate with Achilles.  Vinnie was an incredible man & hand cyclist who unexpectedly passed just two weeks after completing his first marathon at the 2019 Eversource Hartford race.

GROUP AND 1:1  WORKOUTS:

We do not have any upcoming group workouts in the coming weeks due to races this weekend through the beginning of November.  You can log into your Rosterfy accounts to sign up for November workouts. NOVEMBER RACES:

Nina and Michelle are reaching out to athletes and guides who are participating in our final two races of the season on 11/2 (Donny's Dash) and 11/17 (Race to Fill the Pantry).
