UR Vision Resources: Empowering Independence for Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities

UR Vision Resources is our latest initiative dedicated to supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities who have vision impairments. We are excited to partner with towns and cities across Connecticut to bring this program directly to you! Our mission is to offer free vision support, connect participants with valuable resources, and provide technology training to enhance independence and quality of life. Together, we can make a difference!

Statewide Initiative for Assistive Technology and Onsite Support

<https://email.cloud2.secureclick.net/c/4104?id=2476451.2460.1.cea099eae3c8bf87760b995c66470cfe> UR Community Cares is launching a statewide effort to provide access to assistive technology and onsite support from trained volunteers. Our Tech Center in Manchester boasts an extensive inventory of devices. To schedule an appointment with a volunteer and find the most suitable device for your needs, please contact us at 860-430-4557.

The Impact of Visual Impairments

Nearly 20 million Americans, or 8 percent of the U.S. population, have visual impairments. These range from poor vision to blindness and are one of the leading causes of loss of independence for people aged 65 and older.

Upcoming UR Vision Resources Events Around Connecticut

Join us for engaging sessions where you can explore assistive technology devices designed for individuals with low vision and blindness. Discover valuable local and national resources, and receive a complimentary printed or flash drive copy of UR Community Cares 2025 Blind and Low Vision Service Directory.

Understanding the courtesy rules of blindness is crucial because it fosters respect, empathy, and effective communication, ensuring that individuals with visual impairments feel valued and supported in their daily interactions.

Directory of Blind/Vision Impaired Services and Organizations - 2025 Edition

Our 2025 directory is now available! <https://email.cloud2.secureclick.net/c/4104?id=2476451.2461.1.8d970348e2920fb2acf6d2648cdc0ca4> View the directory here to access a comprehensive list of resources in Connecticut, nationwide, and advanced technology options globally for blind and vision-impaired individuals.

We are deeply grateful for the grant from the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, which will enable us to update our directory in 2025 and acquire assistive technology devices. This support allows us to demonstrate and train individuals in New Haven County on how to effectively use these devices, fostering greater independence and accessibility. Throughout 2025, we will visit libraries, senior centers, and low vision groups to present new information about the organizations featured in our directory and available apps.

Join us in making a difference and empowering individuals with vision impairments to lead more independent lives!
