The Board of Directors of Disability Rights Connecticut, Inc. (“DRCT”), is pleased to announce that the search for the organization’s next Executive Director has concluded with the hiring of Deborah S. Dorfman, a highly accomplished disability rights attorney and advocate. Ms. Dorfman is beginning with DRCT on February 1, 2021, initially working remotely from Washington State due to the current pandemic.

Ms. Dorfman has held leadership positions in organizations with kindred missions to that of DRCT including the Northwest Justice Project, Center for Public Representation, Disability Rights California, Disability Rights Washington, and Disability Law Center (Utah). Her management experience includes supervising and mentoring new attorneys, paralegals, and law students as well as developing, managing, and implementing legal advocacy priorities and programs. As an attorney, she has represented many individuals with disabilities on a wide range of disability rights issues, in complex cases, including class action and other systemic reform litigation, and individual legal advocacy and policy advocacy.

The Board would like to recognize the invaluable contribution that Bob Joondeph, DRCT’s departing Interim Executive Director, has made to the evolution of the organization. During his tenure, DRCT has taken numerous actions alone and with community partners to protect the rights of people with disabilities to live, learn, and participate in their communities.

As Connecticut’s protection and advocacy system, DRCT seeks to employ a wide array of legal and advocacy strategies and strong relationships with community partners to protect the rights and positively impact the lives of individuals with disability in Connecticut.
