[Diabetes-talk] Our Friend Ed Bryant

The Jacobs Family bandbjacobs at verizon.net

Hey Gang: I was actually too tired last night to get on and be functional
at the same time!!! What a shock!!! Although, Mike, you and I have had
this discussion before... I'm sure if you think about it, I need not say
anything more? However, I feel I can share this with the rest of my
extended family here. Ya know, Ed and I were two of the original folks on
the charter back in '85 when we first formed. Yah Guys! I was in serious
denial then. After all, it was only four months prior that I had been just
diagnosed. I was still madder than a wet hen. I was telling Ed my story
about how my mother was an extremely brittle diabetic and I lost her to its
complications at the ripe old age of 13. Mom was just 47 then. She had had
14 children in 12 years and lost nine of them. A set of tripplets, set of
twins, and four single births. I came through by the skin of someone's
teeth. I was read my last rights and baptized three times before I was ever
released from the hospital to my folks. Now, of course, the rest of you
know I'm too mean to kick off that easily, which is why I'm still here!!
Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that God really does have a
plan! Huh?

Guess what Folks! It was Ed Bryant who gave me that proverbial kick in the
seat of the pants that I needed! Yet, he did it so lovingly, just as if he
was taking me under his wing--like his little girl. It was Ed Bryant who
actually walked through how to use the Count-A-Dose over the phone when I
was pregnant right after Bill and I first married. It was Ed Bryant who
helped work through when I miscarried our baby. He was there when Bill and
I cried. He was there when we made the decision that we should adopt our
children. It was Ed who talked me through my first insulin injection when I
was scared spittless. It was Ed who I called when I was having those
horrible reactions, even several times a day. With the first bad time, I
bounced in and out of consciousness for seven and a half hours in the
hospital. He was there for both me and Bill. After all, Bill was just as
scared by the whole thing as I was. Seems there wasn't a question for Bill
and me that he couldn't answer. If he didn't have the answer for us, he
could tell us where to find just what we needed.

As the years have gone by, and the division has grown to this magnitude, I
can't help but believe this has been truly a dream of his and I'm just so
glad and so proud he's been able to see this come to fruition. I'd like to
take this time to publicly thank Ed! Not just for me, but for all he's done
for all of us!! He's left us all a legacy I hope none of us will ever
forget! I actually have tears coming to my eyes as I'm typing this and I've
got that proverbial lump in my throat... Thanks Guys!! Ed was like a
father I never had!! I'm so proud to have known him!!
