[Diabetes-talk] Voice

Why can't the voice of the Diabetic be produced in a down-loadable format
that would save on both printing & paper costs in addition to the costs for
audio dubbing/recording equipment and cassettes? If a master copy was made
available on a web site & with today's technology, both text & audio
versions could be easily down-loaded to computers. From there they could be
read with the use of screen reading software, magnification software, or
simply copied onto a CD and played on a boom box. Who doesn't own a CD
Player these days? Also with NLS moving to the digital down-loadable
talking books format blind people will be equipped with players that would
allow them to read these files.
I think there is some good & useful info that comes from the voice. It
would be a shame if a newly blinded diabetic could not get the information
they need. Doctor's certainly don't know the blindness aspect of diabetes
well. In fact, in December, I was at my Doc's and they were asking me what
the options are for talking/accessible meters!
By the way, out of noseyocity, what percentage of the NFB membership is the
diabetic population? I would think pretty high? Just guessing, but am
interested to know.
