[Diabetes-talk] warning: Clevercheck meter is not completely accessible

Dear List members,

I received my Clevercheck blood glucose meter on Monday from Homecare
Solutions. I mentioned that Homecare Solutions is no longer carrying the
Prodigy Voice and strips due to some error with the machine (I don't know
the nature of this error). I asked the people I spoke with at Homecare
Solutions if the Clevercheck would speak blood sugar results, date, time,
memory, and settings. I was told that the meter speaks these things but the
response was tentative. I checked with two people and one or both of them (I
can't remember) asked someone else or looked at the documentation to answer
my question.

This afternoon, I had a friend help me set the time and date and other
settings. I found out that the meter is made by Simple Diagnostics

I called Simple Diagnostics tech support to find out that the meter will
speak testing prompts, the blood sugar result, and memory but it won't speak
date and time or settings.

The memory is useless if a meter doesn't speak the date and time of the
result. In addition, if a meter can speak prompts it should be able to speak
everything else. It is like cell phones or other products that have limited
talking features. I don't think it would be that hard to make something
totally accessible. I am going to contact Advanced Diabetes Supplies for
strips and start using my Prodigy Voice again.

I will call Homecare Solutions tomorrow and politely tell them that they
made an error and that the new meter they are selling to blind people is not
totally accessible. Companies need to be better informed about what they are
selling. I will not be using Homecare Solutions any time soon. I went
through a great deal of hassle just to obtain strips just because they were
incorrectly billing my insurance.

I have been using my old Acucheck for now. Just out of curiosity, are there
any other meters with voice capabilities on the market?

I am sorry if this is too much of a tirade. I just wanted to tell list
members who use Homecare Solutions that the new product they are selling is
not totally accessible.
