Hi Paul,
I received the following from Ann Williams who responds to your concerns
about your doctor's office.

Regarding the question Paul asked below, I think he does have a right to
expect his doctor to communicate with him more directly, Because I have
worked in an endocrinology office, and realize that you can have a really
zoo-ey day when you do things you usually would not do, I tend to cut office
staff slack for one or two mistakes. It's really my personal philosophy in
general to give people a chance to correct mistakes. But I would also be
very clear about communicating that I expect to be able to learn of my lab
results either directly from the doctor, or else through office staff that
understands what they are looking at. If after hearing of my concerns, the
doctor and his staff make some changes, it's all to the best. If they make
another mistake some time soon, I would re-state my request firmly. If
there is a third mistake, I would be looking for a different doctor.
I do not know whether Paul's doctor would be willing to email his test
results. Paul might try offering that option as a way to learn what the
results were. It would allow the doctor to write Paul a short note about
his test results at a convenient time, allow Paul to ask questions, and
would keep the office staff out of the middle of the communication.

Hello Paul,
You definitely have a right to be angry. As your team of health
professionals were not being very professional.
I am sending a copy of this to Ann Williams, PhD, RN, CDE, and asking for
her advice. She is on this list and is excellent with diabetes issues.

Ed Bryant

Last Wednesday, I had a major blood test, and they told me the results would
be back on Thursday. This is the first full test I have had since being
diagnosed last September.
On Thursday, I called the office to get my readings, as my triglycerides at
least are totally off the wall. My primary doctor didn't return my call,
but it was returned by an associates medical assistant, who informed that my
readings were in good shape, except that my blood glucose readings were low.
This is crap, as he didn't have the averages from my meter, and when I asked
about other numbers, she hung up. In short, I found out nothing about what
I really wanted to know.
Do I have the right to be angry, or should I cut them some slack? I'm not
asking anyone to pass judgement on how my doctor's office works, but should
I be concerned?
Sorry for being so lengthy, but, I'm shopping for opinions based on
experience.
Pauld
