Priscilla,

There is talk that Prodigy is suppose to be releasing an accessible pump soon, but I have also been hearing similar things for years. This would be amazing though.

Many will tell you using an insulin pump not designed for accessibility is ridiculous, and I respect and understand those opinions, but I have been on a Deltech Cosmo pump for seven years and I have had the most regulated blood sugars of my life, and I have been diabetic for twenty-five years.

There are many more pumps on the market that I am sure are similar. I believe they will be discontinuing my pump soon, but my doctor is already researching what pump I should switch too. Since you are so close in Iowa, I would highly recommend visiting the diabetes clinic at the Nebraska Med Center. I've had the best care here and my doctor has never once doubted my ability to manage my diabetes. The new clinic is also a comprehensive clinic which provides care for anything related to diabetes including, but not limited too, eyes, cardiology, feet, nutrition, etc.

Anyway, I'm living proof that blind people can successfully use pumps, although, a completely accessible pump would be great and is needed. Considering diabetes is a leading cause for blindness, you would think an accessible pump would already exist.

Good luck.

Bridgit
