Priscilla:
There are no accessible pumps at this time. However, two accessible pumps
are in the offing, i.e., are supposed to be available some time next year.
(1) DDI, the maker of the Prodigy Voice, is working on a talking insulin
pump and plans to release it some time next year.
(2) Access Solutions, Inc., maker of the DECtalk USB speech synthesizer, is
working with MedTronics to produce a talking remote control that works with
many of its insulin pumps; the control speaks all pump functions and can set
all its parameters and also works with bg meters that communicate with said
pumps. This remote control is also supposed to be released some time in
2011.
AS for which pumps are "most accessible" at this time, I think the best way
for you to figure this out is to try a bunchy of them, i.e., have their
sales reps demonstrate them for you, and pick what works best for you. In
general, after setup by a sighted person, one can usually give oneself
specific boluses for meals without intervention assuming one trusts the
beeps the pumps issue as you punch the bolus button. Sometimes one can also
figure out when pumps issue low battery warnings etc., but this isn't
guaranteed.
For myself, I wouldn't even consider a pump until it was able to indicate
results of all its functions and parameters for me.
