[Diabetes-talk] Denied my insulin from HIP today

Just want to give everyone an FYI.

I have been taking the Lantus Solostar insulin pens for year, just like the rest of you.

I  got an e-mail today from my mail order company since I had put in a refill the other day that my insurance company is no longer covering it.

My head almost blew off, I called Medco my mail order company and they said I had to call my insurance company.

I was told by the pharmacy services, that I could use the vials with the needles but if they would not allow the pens because they want me to use another drug.

I said first of all WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!  I received no notice in the mail about any changes from HIP, also I said I am  blind and I do not use the vials and needles.

I also said that they cannot change a drug mid prescription, especially me being diabetic.

They told me that my doctor had to contact them with an override prescription so that they can release it.

I said what is the difference they are covering the vials but not the needles.

I also said what other drug did you want me to take for the Lantus pens.

They wouldn't give me answers.

I called the Dr's office.  He is fuming as well but will call the over ride department

I then called Congressman Israel's office who is my district congressman, the aid the works for him in this area was in a meeting and has to get back to me on this sometime today.

How dare these insurance companies do this!

I need my meds, they could have at least sent written information on this.  Which they said they did, but Nelson and I go over everything, and nothing was ever sent.
