Debbie,

I'm no expert or physician, but I have been a type 1 diabetic for 26
years, seen many specialist and been through the gambit of treatments,
products, care providers, health problems, etc. The one piece of advice
I give any diabetic, or pre-diabetic, is to seek an endocrinologist.
Regardless of being type 1 or 2, it's so vital a diabetic see a
specialist. All doctors know how the body works, but there's a reason
they specialize: so they know all the details and ins and outs of a
particular organ/body function.

True, diet and exercise, or lack thereof, will affect our body and
contribute to diabetes or cause problems with existing diabetes. It's
important, as a diabetic, to have a healthier lifestyle, but a
specialist knows what treatments to try and what medications or methods
to use to achieve those results.

For a period during my early twenties, I only saw a general
practitioner, and he was very knowledgeable, but I had the worse
management of my diabetes during this time. Once I saw an
endocrinologist again, I got things back to an even keel. We alone are
responsible for our daily management and taking our meds, but we need to
know the best path to follow. In my opinion, it's not responsible to not
see a specialist. If a person had cancer or heart related problems, a
general doc, themselves, would send you to a specialist, but for some
reason with diabetes, people still think it's not necessary to see an
endocrinologist.

I've heard that some studies are suggesting that the sooner a type 2 is
put on insulin, the better management they have. Nonetheless, it is
still wise to seek a specialist and find out what they think. Certainly
a high A1-C suggest the diabetes is getting out of control. A normal
one, as we all know, should be in the 6.0 range, but definitely not
above 8.0 Again, I'm no expert, but I know the advantages of seeing an
endocrinologist as opposed to just a gen. doctor.

Your friend will do what they're going to do, but I would recommend they
seek an endocrinologist before making any changes or adjustments to
their healthcare.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter

Has anyone used products from Advance Diabetics Solution? If so, are
you on
insulin, oral meds or both? A good friend of mine is on oral meds, but
their physician wants them to begin taking insulin, because their A1c
readings are 10/11. I've been trying to talk them into meeting with an
endocrinologist first.

I'm sure their fast food diet and being overweight isn't helping either.

All suggestions welcome.

Debbie
