Twice a day. Two hours after breakfast and dinner- If your on insulin! 1 or 2x per day if your taking diabetic tablets(ie Metformin)
Twice a day on Lantus SoloStar.
If you have questions about any particular you are going to eat, take a reading before eating and two hrs afterwords. That will tell you the effects of the meal on your sugar levels.
