Wow! First, let me say congrats to you, Bridgit. Second, you're worth it.
As for my clinic, I really liked the previous educator, but the
current one, although very nice, just doesn't seem to know anything.
She's not a nurse educator. I think she was trained as a
nutritionist. We do have a pump support group and that's where I see
on a regular basis just how little she knows. However, what I have
now is way better than what I had with the other medical group in
town. There is one endocrinologist and he hates pumps. He can't
understand why anyone would want one because as he puts it, it
doesn't get you out of any work. Honestly! Most of the new things
I've learned have come from Email lists and my own research. And I
suspect this is not an uncommon story.
But this is how the standard of care for all of us goes up. We go in
and say, hey, I hear that in other programs, they do bla bla bla. Why
don't we? And if the resources do turn up, we take advantage of them.
So good for you Bridgit and what a great example.
