Hello Terri,

I saw your email on the NFB DAN list serve regarding the Prodigy Voice meter
and thought I might provide you some answers.

I was Vice President at Prodigy when the Voice meter was created with the
help of key NFB Accessibility Staff. I no longer work with Prodigy so I am
not making a sales pitch but I can say it is the only meter to receive the
NFB + AFB Access Awards. You had questions about simultaneous tests you
did with the Prodigy Voice and Autocode meters with readings of 94 and 107.
The FDA requires accuracy to be within plus or minus 20% of an FDA approved
standardized test. In my experience in dealing with many testing agencies,
Prodigy was of the more accurate meters in the market.

As far as where can Prodigy strips be purchased, I know the NFB Store has
them as well as many mail order distributors. By copy of this email I will
ask one of my past colleagues, Kelly Massaro-Neal, to provide you more
information regarding current distributors.

Hope that helps and Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends with the
National Federation of the Blind!

Jerry Munden

Agreed. There is no difference between 94 and 107...there may always be a 20
point range for blood sugars...look more at a range than a number..you can
check your levels on the same machine with the same drop of blood and it
will most likely still be different.

First, the Prodigy Voice is the only fully accessible meter that Prodigy
makes. And second, 107 and 94 are not huge differences. They are both
numbers respectable target ranges. Fluctuating glucose levels are not
exactly abnormal, and even if retesting on the same meter, you may have
a slightly different number. Why, I have no clue, but I wouldn't worry
to much when the difference is between 107 and 94. Had it been 170 and
94, then there would be an issue.

Subject: [Diabetes-talk] Got the new Prodigy Voice

Hello everyone,

I ordered my diabetic testing supplies the other day, and to my surprise
I got a new meater. I already had the Prodigy Voice, and I believe this
is the newer one.

Can anyone please write me off-list, and tell me how this thing works.
It only seems to have one button, and it doesn't announce the time. So
how does it keep track of my records?

Also, I tested my blood sugar yesterday with the new meater. It gave me
a reading of 107. Then I tested my blood sugar with the older meater,
just to see if there was a significant difference. It gave me a reading
of 94. Which one should I believe? How do you know which is most
accurate?

Any help with all of this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
