Obviously it's type two and not type one this procedure can potentially
get rid of.

Actually, Bill, I'd not recommend banding now. It's day has kind of
come
and gone. However, gastric bypass and the gastric sleeve are options
that
really do help people control weight who just can't do it any other
way--and
the advantage, at least with bypass, is that diabetes goes away or gets
much
easier to control, blood pressure, cholesterol, and other things go to
normal, and it is actually seen in many medical circles as the panacea
we're
all looking for.
The two procedures are not available for people whose weight is not
quite
high, and over a period of years there is some weight increase. But it
is
certainly medically/surgically optional. Having said all that, it's
darned
annoying, too, because there's a rather long phase of adjustment to tiny
amounts of food and liquid, which comes with vomiting and diarrhea and
other
unpleasant side effects for a while. And I don't mean a week or two,
either.
The gastric bands are going out of favor because they tend not to be as
effective, being adjustable, and they can move and cause damage during
exercise.
