[Diabetes-talk] Food Questions

I haven't been to Weight Watchers for a long time, but am a lifetime member.
The last I knew, the site is somewhat accessible for blind people, but not
totally. Weight Watchers has, over the years, created tools--software and
calculators, etc.--that are quite useful to members, except that they've
never been accessible. The program books are, for the most part, available
in Braille, which is helpful. From time to time, though, they leave out some
of the materials.
Again, this is not totally up-to-date information. If it turns out to be
false, no one would be happier than I.
Weight Watchers is better than many diets that come and go on the market.
There are dietitians behind the program. But, like most diets, it's only the
answer for you if you can live with the rules and counting the points and
all. Certainly Weight Watchers can constitute a good diet for people with
diabetes. My one caution, though, is that you don't want to listen if they
push the low-cal and low-fat foods, most of which are packed with sugar to
replace the fat. Fat is truly better for anyone than sugar, but for a person
with diabetes, the sugar mercilessly added to "diet" or "health" foods
damages our effectiveness in controlling our disease.
