Hi everyone!
First, to those using the Dexcom, if you have not yet updated the app, look
out! To the rest of us, here's why we really need to get these companies to
use standard practices in creating their apps, especially for medical
devices because we're always going to be just one update away from trouble!
Here's what happened. I updated the Dexcom app as well as my phone to iOS
10. Not happy about that one, but that's a different list. <grin>
I then had to pair a new transmitter. Once I did that, I waited through the
two-hour sensor warmup and got the notification, tap to enter first BG.
I tapped and entered the number as usual. Then I hit save. I got the
confirmation message, is this correct? At this point, like before I found,
save button and double-tapped. Nothing happened. I still had the same
question, a number pad and a very goofy looking screen. After spending an
hour on the phone with tech support, uninstalling the app, reinstalling the
app, all of that when I really wanted to be snuggled up in bed, my hubby
happened to get up and noticed the problem. It seems that Dexcom isn't using
standard controls and that confirmation message is kind of a pop over layer.
VoiceOver is actually seeing two different save buttons, even though the
sighted people only see one. So the real save button is down amidst the
numbers, between the two and the five. VoiceOver is just seeing these ghost
images from things that used to be there. We did figure out that the
engineers knew about this too. I gave them quite an earful about fixing this
and how they should have used standard Apple app creation methods.
The only thing I've noticed about this update is that the widget now appears
in the notification section. Oh wait, take that back. It appeared earlier
but not now. Sheesh!
So okay, I've figured out how to get around this till they fix it, if they
do. But really? I sure hope it doesn't get any junkier with future updates.
This was the sort of problem with the IBGStar app as well. Non-standard
stuff. We're never quite out of the woods, are we!
